Science Gallery 10th Birthday Celebrations
Trinity Square Dublin
In celebration of the 10th year of the innovative first ever Science Gallery opening, Aoife van Linden Tol was commissioned to set off three distinct explosions in the historical Front Square of Trinity Collage.
Wearing 1000 degree heat proof suits which allow them to travel through the flames and sparks performers navigate and explore unknown territory and come to terms with the volatile yet beautiful world they discover as they travel from one explosive moment to the other.
The site specific explosive art installations are inspired by the phenomena of the stars as well as the unique features of the square and surrounding buildings.
Halo - Created during her residency at th European Space Agency halo explores the inherent protection systems within the universe including the Earth's magnetosphere which protects the Earth from solar radiation, the Sun's heliosphere which protects the solar system from interstellar radiation and galaxy's halos which protects us from intergalactic radiation.
Coronal Rain - explores the idea then we could walk on the surface of the Sun and see the hot evaporated plasma as it condenses and falls all around us.
Suns - explores they dynamic pressure forces involved in stars self regulating process in particular hydrostatic equilibrium.
These stunning series of fleeting yet powerful works poetically reflect the Science Gallery’s brave program which aims to challenge norms, explore the unknown, ask difficult questions and involve the public in the joy and debate around art, science, technology and human progress.
