HYDROSTATIC EQUILIBRIUM
Aoife van Linden Tol created an exclusive new work for the Global Shine Foundation Charity Auction on the 29th Febuary 2016. Responding to the theme of balance Aoife looked into outer space. Firstly, to the moment a star becomes its own entity, when it reaches hydrostatic equilibrium, where the thermal pressure from the nuclear reactions inside the core become equal to the external gravitational pressures exerted from the outer layers, a moment of perfect self regulating balance. Secondly, the image will include a pair of binary stars, abstractly depicted, dancing around each other in perfect, gravitational harmony. Using copper sheet, an element synthesized exclusively inside massive stars, and black powder explosions the work seeks to create a sense of a new beginning. The scorched surface of the work becomes oxidised allowing galactical and nebulaic crystal patterns of turquoise, green and blue crystal patterns to grow on the dark scorched surface, thus, the artwork continually evolves over the years. The stark contrast between the glowing copper and the exploded part of the work is a stunning trade mark of van Linden Tol’s long running Meta series of work on metal.
