BOOKS
Whilst at university Aoife van Linden Tol pierced the pages of a small note book with a shaped detonation of high explosive creating her first Diary of an Explosion. Each page telling the day in a life of a force travelling at incomprehensible speed. The first pages ripped, torn and marked with a pattern caused by tiny particles of shrapnel. The last pages reveal perfectly spherical indentations with just a few hairline cracks. From chaos to mathematical order, the journey of the explosion is followed through each sheet of paper. Variations of this work developed to the series Once Upon a Fraction of Time made using beautiful Chinese accordion formatted books with hand made paper. Aoife has also used various black powders to create drawings and abstract patterns within selected pages of books.
